Longtail Boat Trip in Phang Nga Bay

The Experience

The longtail boat is the traditional wooden boat, with its long propeller and colourful ribbons at the bow. We set off in the morning; the sea is calm. And very quickly we find ourselves amongst the limestone pinnacles rising out of the turquoise water. We stop at small, almost deserted beaches and swim in hidden lagoons. This is often the moment we remember most when we get back.

A few ideas for stops along the way.

  • Koh Hong, with its inland lagoon surrounded by cliffs
  • Koh Nok and its mangroves
  • Laem Haad, on Koh Yao Yai, a white sandbank that emerges at low tide
  • The famous James Bond Island and the stilted fishing village of Koh Panyee, further out in the bay
